Covid 19 - What is the new normal?

Adjusting our ways of working

For some, we will have adjusted to a new way of working, for others, the unexpected remoteness of homeworking will seem an alien place. There is much discussion in the media and in society about how this pandemic will affect our future lives. One dominating aspect of this is our work lives. The incidence of lock down will pose many new decisions: can we be more effective in the future by having a more flexible approach to home working, will it save costs, increase actual work hours by reducing travel etc?

The government are encouraging us to work from home unless we are unable to fulfil our roles and therefore need to travel to our place of business.

The Department of Business were quoted on the BBC news to say that when things return to ‘normal,’ people will be “encouraged to work from home where possible.” (1)

What does home working look like?

It is likely that, by now, most home workers will have established a home working set up. But is this ideal? What would the ideal look like? Business owners may consider reducing the size of office space to save costs and alter office design so that it offers more of a meeting space for key interactions, and fixed desks (rather than smart working/desk sharing). Technology will form a pivotal element of this design, and the Saqqara Team have decades of experience in assisting with deign and re-working offices to become more versatile, with accompanying variable infrastructure including data cabling, Wi-Fi, power supply, telephone systems etc.

Being prepared for future incidents

With current conversation based around emerging from lock down and entering a new ‘watch and wait’ phase, there is some likelihood that we may encounter similar events in the future. Hopefully, we will have some degree of preparation for this eventuality and will be able to manage. In the worst-case scenario, how will our businesses manage with a second lock down or a spike in cases? It is imperative that for our financial and enterprise survival, we can move seamlessly from office to remote location.

We strongly recommend an evaluation of current set up, including file storage, and migrating existing systems to the cloud, which is both versatile, safe, and secure. This also provides swift access to each user’s files.

For now and to protect your future business, we encourage you to reach out and talk to us to secure your systems, protect your clients experience and encourage a full team effort, as if working from the office.
